523GB Received
by seb on Dec.16, 2008, under Misc
I was bored after work today, decided to check on the “Bytes Received” status for the NIC on my computer. 523GB in 18 days? Not half bad!
I haven’t seen a threatening letter from Comcast, which I’ve been fully expecting for months, now, but I am somehow starting to think that a letter isn’t coming. Since October 1st, I’ve been over the new bandwidth cap by more than double. In November, I was more than TRIPLE the bandwidth cap, measuring up with a total of 896GB for that month, not including other computers, or video game consoles. Since May of 2005, I have calculated over 11TB (eleven terabytes, for those of you that think it’s a typo) on this computer alone.
11TB since May of 2005. That’s 43 months at an average of 256GB every month, 8GB every day (30 days), 355MB every hour, 6MB every minute, 100KB every second, CONSTANTLY, for the past 3 years and 7 months.
So how come there’s no letter in my mailbox from Comcast warning me that I’ve gone over my limit for the past few months? Maybe it’s because I pay my bill on-time, every time. Or maybe it’s that I also subscribe to a movie package and premium channels.
Who knows, and who cares. It should be unmetered at the applicable bandwidth, anyway.
